OneDrive makes it easy to receive documents, photos, or other files from people outside your organization, without giving them access to your folders. This is especially helpful when collecting resumes, reports, signed forms, or any other files.
✅ Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Sign In to OneDrive
- Go to https://onedrive.live.com/ or through your Office 365 portal.
- Log in using your organizational account (ie, user@lifemark.ca, etc.)
2. Create a New Folder
- In the main OneDrive window, click + New > Folder.
- Give the folder a name (e.g., "File Requests – Marketing Team") and click Create.
3. Open the Folder and Prepare to Request Files
- Double-click to open the folder you just created.
- In the top menu bar, click Request files (you may need to click the 3-dot More button if you don't see this right away).
4. Customize the File Request
- Enter a description for the type of files you’re requesting. This helps the sender know what to upload (e.g., "Please upload your signed contracts here").
- Click Next.
5. Share the File Request Link
- You'll receive a unique link that you can copy and send by email, post in a chat, or include in a web page.
- Anyone with this link can upload files, but they cannot view the contents of the folder or see what others have uploaded.
6. Receive and Manage Uploaded Files
- When someone uploads a file using the request link, the file will be saved in the folder you created.
- The file will be automatically named to include the uploader’s name, if they provided one, making it easy to track who submitted what.
🔒 Security Notes
- External users do not need a Microsoft account to upload.
- They cannot view or delete files in the folder.
- If you want to turn off the file request or stop receiving files, you can delete or restrict the link anytime from the Manage Access settings of the folder.
📝 Tips
- You can create multiple folders for different purposes (e.g., "Event Photos Upload", "Client Invoices", etc.).
- Be clear in your file request description to avoid confusion about what users should upload.
